• Early Intervention Transition Parent Information

    Overview:

Annually, Districts across the Commonwealth partner with their regional Intermediate Units to transition students receiving Early Intervention (EI) services to school-age services. Wallingford-Swarthmore School District's (WSSD) procedure is consistent with this practice. In partnership with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU), WSSD attends the DCIU county-wide fall transition orientation for all families and holds individual meetings to welcome families throughout the winter. Often the process can seem overwhelming and lengthy; here are the steps, important links, and timelines below to help make your child’s transition smoother.

    Steps:

    • Attend the DCIU county-wide orientation
    • Register your child for Kindergarten if you are intending for your child to transition to school-age programming
    • Sign the intent to register and release of records provided by your DCIU team
    • Attend your child’s meet & greet individualized transition meeting
    • The team will review documents, conduct observations, interview DCIU and outside providers, and gather additional data from you
    • You will receive a letter with the District’s intent that follows one of three options:
      • Accept EI IEP, and provide NOREP
      • Accept EI documentation, and write a school-age IEP with NOREP
      • Re-evaluate for additional information or to determine if a school-age identification criteria are present and applicable
    • After the letter is sent, your elementary school psychologist or kindergarten case manager will contact you to discuss the letter and communicate the next steps
