    Dear WSSD Community,

    As September comes to a close and October begins, I would like to share with you a number of topics that were discussed at the Board meeting, the Policy Committee meeting, and important reminders. 

    September School Board Meeting Updates

    The September School Board meeting was held on Wednesday, September 28 at 7pm in Strath Haven Middle School Library. There were a number of items on the agenda for discussion and board approval that I would like to highlight: 

    Athletic Fields 

    The Board voted on and approved the following contracts: 

    • Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) project - approved resolution authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds in the maximum amount of up to $5,000,000, in one or more series for purposes of funding.

    • ELA Sport, Design and Consulting Services - approved an agreement with ELA Sport, who will develop an Athletic Facilities Master Plan for the entire Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

    • ELA Sport, Athletic Facility Consulting and Design Services - approved agreement with ELA Sport to develop Plans and Specifications for Synthetic Turf Replacement and Stadium Modifications at King Field. Work begins in Spring 2023.

    Safety & Security

    The Board voted on and approved the following contracts:

    • ADT Commercial, Electronic Sensors/Switches on all District Exterior Doors - approved contract with ADT Commercial for Installation of Electronic Sensor/Switches on all District Exterior Doors. 

    • CM3 Building Solutions, Electronic Fob Reading Door Openers - approved contract with CM3, Building Solutions for Installation of Electronic Fob Reading Door Openers at our three Elementary Schools. 

    Welcoming Ms. Christine Dollé, our newest Board Member

    We also welcomed a new Board member, Ms. Christine Dollé. Ms. Dollé joins the School Board with over 20 years of experience as a certified school psychologist, advocating for children and working collaboratively with stakeholders in educational settings. In this capacity, she had the opportunity to function in a variety of different roles with children’s health and socioemotional well-being at the forefront. We very much look forward to her contributions to the Board and to the community. You can find more information about Ms. Dollé attached

    September Policy Committee Meeting Updates 

    On Thursday September 29, the Policy Committee held its September meeting at 7pm. The following 5 policies were on the agenda for second readings:

    • Policy 220 – Student Expression/ Distribution & Posting of Materials

    • Policy 229 – Student Fundraising

    • Policy 707 – Use of School Facilities

    • Policy 913 – Non-School Organizations/ Groups/ Individuals

    • Policy 913.1 – Corporate Sponsorships, Partnerships, and Advertising

    First Reading

    • Policy 206 – Attendance Areas and Assignment in District

    • Policy 805.2 – School Security Personnel

    The policies slated for first reading were deferred to the next scheduled Policy Committee meeting on November 22.

    Upcoming Board Meeting, October 6

    On October 6, a Special Board Meeting will be held at 6:30pm in the Strath Haven Middle School Library. This meeting will serve to  award the Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) contract to CM3 Building Solutions. 

    Upcoming Educational Affairs Meeting, October 6

    Immediately following the Special Board meeting, the Educational Affairs Committee will meet in the Strath Haven Middle School library at 7pm. The agenda topics are:

    • Extended School Year

    • New Teacher Academy

    • Opening Days of School (The First Four)

    Upcoming Important Dates

    Schools Closed, October 5 

    District schools will be closed, and offices open, on Wednesday, October 5. 

    Schools Closed, October 10

    District schools will be closed on Monday, October 10.
