• Gifted Education



    In Pennsylvania, 'mentally gifted' is defined as outstanding intellectual and creative ability, the development of which requires specially designed programs or support services, or both, not ordinarily provided in the regular education program. The term 'mentally gifted' includes a person who meets multiple criteria indicating gifted ability, which includes a multidisciplinary evaluation. In the Wallingford-Swarthmore District, gifted education oversight is shared between the Office of Student Services and the Office of Curriculum and Education. The responsibilities shared are follows:

    Office of Student Services

    • Screening result interpretation
    • Multi-disciplinary evaluation
    • PDE Reporting and Compliance concerning GIEPs and NORAs
