Strath Haven Student Council

The Student Council has managed a very successful school year for 2010-2011.  We kicked off the year with a rowdy pep rally to get the students pumped and excited for homecoming.  The theme was 'Haven goes Hawaiian.'  Everyone arrived in their hula skirts and tank tops for a night of fun dancing and music.

In November, the teachers beat the students, yet again, in the Turkey bowl.  It is the annual game to kick off Thanksgiving break.  The students thought our M.C. Hammer “Can’t stuff this” turkey would bring some luck; however, the teachers really brought it to the table.

Before winter break, we made our way down Providence Road to the Wallingford Nursing home to sing Holiday carols with the Silvertones and hand out cards to the residents.  We greeted them with warm smiles, especially our guest appearances by Santa and his elf!

Our last big project of the year was our American Red Cross Blood Drive.  It took place on March 3rd in our high school gym.  This year’s blood drive was especially important this year.  The 2011 blood drive was a memoriam for Mrs. Diane McCormick who worked incredibly hard to help plan this event in years past.  Her passing earlier this year shocked us all, but it was important to Student Council that she was remembered this way.  A Diane McCormick Scholarship Fund was started shortly after her passing.  The Student Council is proud to announce that for every pint of blood donated from Strath Haven High School, we will donate $1.00 to the scholarship.  This number will be determined as soon as we hear word from the Red Cross about how successful this year was.  We would like to thank Mrs. Sweeney for stepping in this year.  She did an outstanding job organizing and planning with the American Red Cross; we could not have been successful without her.

Next on our list will be elections for the 2011-2012 school year! Good Luck to all Candidates.
