SHMS Home and School

September 4, 2012

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are getting ready to begin another new school year.  With that in mind we wanted to share with you some important items for the upcoming year.

Home and School has been working diligently the last couple of years to try to increase the level of communication while decreasing the amount of paper that is being sent home. It has been a challenge, but we are not giving up! Each week, when Mr. King sends out his blast, Home and School will have a spot for announcements and a link to our web page where you will be able to get more detailed information on Home and School sponsored events and meetings, and you will also be able to download forms and handouts. Please try to get into the habit of checking our web page regularly. It will reflect any changes to our calendar and will keep you informed as to guest speakers we will be hosting at our monthly meetings. It is our goal to keep parents well informed without having to dig into the bottom of your child’s backpack to find the information.

We will have several fundraisers throughout the year.  Home and School has purchased approximately a dozen Smart Boards for the new school, we have helped fund special projects, such as the student-led design and construction of the panther statue at the Providence Road entrance, as well as contributing to the beautification of our green spaces. As we move forward, it is our intention to continue to help enhance the learning experience and the overall school environment by providing funds for some of these “big ticket items.” Please consider supporting one of our fundraisers- Spirit Wear Sale, Mum Sale, Spring Musical concessions, or Spring Flower Sale.

Our first event will be “Morning at the Middle School” on August 29 and will be for all incoming 6th graders. Home and School will be providing water ice and soft pretzels.  Remember the HSA calendar is posted on our web page. Please join us at our first Home and School Association Meeting on Thursday, September 13, 2012.

Sincerely,

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where should I park at school during school hours?

Between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., parents and visitors should park in assigned spaces marked “Visitor” in front of the building. Specific short-term parking spaces (less than 15 minutes) will be marked. Users of these spaces will be required to turn emergency flashers on. Additional parking required, due to events, will be determined and communicated with event information.

  • Does the HSA organize a phone tree for emergency closing?

No. Our emergency closing number is 460. Check the District website for snow closing information and work out a plan with your child/children as to what to do in case of an early dismissal.
