WES Sustainability Committee

Mr Mendell asked his fourth grade class to write poetry on the topic of the natural environment and it’s protection.
Here is a sampling of his student’s work.

Untitled

In fall there were lots of clouds.
The leaves are no longer green.
And sense it is cold,
You can't go to the ride a wave.
So sad...
...but at least you can jump in a leaf pile!
CANNON BALL!

  This lake

This lake had birds
This lake had fish
The deer drank the water
The deer ate the grass
People came and littered and smoked
The water got all murky and nasty
The birds flew away
the fish all died
Even the deer all left
This lake is now just smelly water
Why do we ruin our world?

Nature Poem

Waking up to the morning doves
Calling me out of my bed
Yawning before I wipe the sleep out of my eyes
Running through the house to the kitchen
Mom gives me an apple and some milk
I eat it hurriedly when I finish I get ready to go outside
The warm breezes of summer mornings greet me as I step outside
The morning dove is not crying out any longer
But I see a robin on her nest under my hammock
I smile as I catch a glimpse of an egg
With my book I sway in my hammock
The trees are swaying with me
I smell the scent of leaves wet from the morning dew
My book, nature, and I seem as one
I stay there lazily till mom calls me in to lunch

Environment poem

Silent trees
And silver
Streams.
Little creatures
In their sleep.
Car goes by
Gas comes out,
Trees are
Black then
Cut down.
Little squirrel
No home to
Rest....
Now

BIKE RACKS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AT WES!
Fourth graders Roggen and Sean enjoy riding their bikes to school in good weather to reduce their carbon footprint.
Riding their bikes, they can get home by 3:40, taking the bus sometimes means getting home as late as 4:15.
