Cecelia ("Cece") Olszewski, Class of 2022, a George Slick Fellowship Winner for Music and Music Composition is a lifelong resident of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, having attended Swarthmore Rutledge School and Strath Haven Middle School prior to entering Strath Haven High School. She is the daughter of John and Veronica Olszewski and sister of Strath Haven alumni Julia and Liz Olszewski. Cece started playing violin at the age of four with Ingrid Rosenback (Swarthmore, PA), and then with Charles Parker (Philadelphia, PA). She has studied piano since the age of five, with Donna Kay Jones (Swarthmore, PA) and then with Christine Emata (Wallingford, PA). She began composing original music at the age of 14 and has studied with David Trum (Philadelphia, PA). Her original compositions can be heard on music platforms such as Soundcloud, Bandcamp and YouTube, and have been played on WRTI fm radio. In addition to her instrumental studies and composing, Cece is a drum major for the Strath Haven High School Marching Band, a member of the Silvertones and editor of the Panther Press, among many other activities. She has been a member of the Temple Music Prep Center for Gifted Young Musicians since the age of nine. She hopes to study music composition in college.
She will perform a program of Brahms, Barber, and Grieg, along with a world premiere of her original composition, "joyride", written for symphony orchestra during her sophomore year.
Cece will be performing her Slick Fellowship Recital on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, 7:00 p.m. at the Strath Haven High School Auditorium. In-person attendance will be by invitation only, however her performance will be live-streamed here.
