The transportation department faced a significant challenge this morning as we experienced a shortage of bus drivers that affected our ability to complete our normal bus route runs. We were able to pull pieces together to allow for runs to take place without significantly impacting our arrival times.
This is the first time that we have faced this challenge in two decades, and it is an issue that school districts around the country are also dealing with during this time. Unexpected retirements along with COVID-19 have caused us to be temporarily understaffed in the transportation department. We are working tirelessly to find solutions to our shortage and will ultimately need to recruit more drivers.
For today’s dismissal, bus drivers may need to run double routes or particular buses may be dismissed early. Please expect a delay for today’s afternoon run. In addition, during the next two weeks, there may be possible delays in the morning and afternoon bus runs if we have a lack of drivers for the scheduled bus routes.
We are currently working on a transportation plan, and we will keep you informed. In the meantime, if you are able to pick up and drop off your child, it would be much appreciated until we find a permanent solution to this challenge.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will keep you posted on any additional changes as they develop.
