• Dear Families,

As January continues, we look forward to seeing the last few of our Flat characters returning to NPE. Additionally, students are working diligently to create resources as a service to kindergarten and first grade students so they can present their creations by the beginning of February. Our first study about CARIBOU was insightful and students did fantastic jobs presenting their learnings.  More to come with other Arctic animals, such as the Arctic Fox, polar bears, and Emperor Penguins.

We have begun delving into the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and having vibrant and insightful discussions and lessons regarding equity, justice, equal rights, and more.  I continue to encourage students to also share their learning and questions with parents. In honor of King's legacy, NPE will be collecting items for Providence Animal Shelter & Rags to Riches Animal Rescue.  We are collecting gently used towels, pillow cases, and FLAT be sheets (no elastic or down comforters).  Collection boxes will be in the NPE lobby and donations can be brought to school through Friday, January 28th. We welcome your donations to these worthy charities!

The Lunar New Year (aka Spring Festival or Chinese New Year) officially begins February 1st, so lessons about such an extraordinary cultural celebration will begin late in January. Additionally, students will be submitting their first letters to their new WES pen pals!  Truly, this is the tip of the iceberg.  There is SO MUCH taking place!

Please remember to check my News This Week link, which offers greater details each Sunday.  Finally, if you ever want to see former pictures of your children working and learning, please check out my Memory Lane link to the left.  Thanks for your continued partnership!

    Kindest Regards,

             Mrs. Clarke
