Hi there! I am Brooke Wilkins and this is my fifth year teaching language arts at Strath Haven Middle School. I look forward to working alongside my fifth round of sixth grade students as well as my third round of eighth grade students this year! I am proud to teach in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, which hosts a learning community that inspires me to continuously strive for improvement as I share my passion for education with my students.
I graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in Psychology and Educational Studies. While at Swarthmore, I found great joy in studying interdisciplinary theory, while also pursuing a wide scope of practical experiences. I recently completed my Master's degree in Reading/Writing/Literacy at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. The experience of compelting a deep study of education while continuing my practice expanded my perspective on teaching, learning, and community engagement.
In addition to teaching, I love playing and coaching tennis. I competed on the varsity women's tennis team at Swarthmore and gained valuable experience that has enhanced my understanding of athletes and students. I have also completed extensive coaching work. Coaching has provided me with a well-rounded perspective of learners of all ages and will help to guide my work in the classroom.
I am looking forward to a great year with my colleagues, students, and the parents of SHMS. Together we will foster a community of learning that enables each student to achieve success.
