    SHHS WL Department Recognized as a Gold Medal program by Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association.
    German Exchange trip  June 24-July 10, 2014
    Twenty Strath Haven High School students and chaperone Ms. Becky Jones, stayed with the same German students whom they hosted in September, 2013. Students attended classes at a German high school, took field trips to Salzburg, Austria, Dachau Concentration Camp, Neuschwanstein Castle; Starnberg Lake and weekend trips to the Alps.  It was Strath Haven's eighth exchange with the Munich High School.

    Costa Rica Study/Service trip June 24-July 3, 2014
    Spanish Teacher Pamela Kaneda organized a trip to Costa Rica in which students stayed with host families, took Spanish classes and performed a few afternoons of community service in Allajuela before travelling to La Fortuna, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio.  Nineteen students plus Ms. Kaneda and Ms. Stadnicki enjoyed the trip.     China Trip June 23-July 1, 2014
    Chinese teacher Nancy Tang organized a trip to China this summer for 8 SHHS students who partnered with another school group.  Students visited 3 different cities: Beijing, Xian and Shanghai while there.  They participated in activities such as riding old style Chinese cars and playing playing Jian Zi in Beijing Park and of course visiting the Great Wall of China.


    French Exchange trip April 8-20. 2014
    Twenty students travelled to Vannes, Brittany to stay with their host partners that they hosted back in the fall.  Students attended classes with their hosts as well as various cultural outings before touring Paris for two days with chaperones Ms. Stadnicki and Ms. Kimball-Kelly. 
    National Foreign Language Week   Feb. 24-28, 2014
    The Foreign Language Department celebrated National FL Week with the following activities: (check out the slideshow at right)

    Chinese Club lesson on Calligraphy and Chinese painting  October 30, 2013
    Chinese teacher, Ms. Nancy Tang, invited guest speaker, Ms. Josephine Tsai, an art teacher, to teach the Chinese Club members Chinese calligraphy and painting.  Chinese club president Alain Xiong-Calmes and Vice President Pratik Tarafdar were instrumental in organizing this first event for the newly formed Chinese Club.
    Visitors from Nicaragua in Spanish Classes 
    October 14, 2013
    On Monday, October 14, SHHS welcomed four guest speakers from Matagalpa, Nicaragua.  The speakers and their translator visited and spoke with students in Spanish and Social Studies classes.  They shared stories about their history, economics, and environmental concerns.  The students had the opportunity to ask questions and speak with the guests. Many thanks to the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church and Mrs. Jennifer Cheung for arranging their visit to our school.
    French Exchange  October 10-22, 2013
    SHHS welcomes students from Lycée Lesage in Brittany, France.  This is the second exchange between SHHS and Lycée Lesage which takes place every two years.  Twenty students plus two chaperones arrived October 10 and will stay through October 22.  Twenty SHHS students will travel to France during Spring Break under the organization of Ms. Suzanne Stadnicki and Ms. Julie Schrader.

    German Exchange  September 5-19, 2013
    SHHS welcomes students from Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium in Planegg, Germany, just outside Munich.  This is the fifth exchange between SHHS and Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium which takes place every two years.  Twenty students plus two chaperones arrived September 5 and will stay through September 19. Twenty-one SHHS students will travel to Germany June 26-July 10, 2014 under the organization and supervision of Ms. Becky Jones plus two other chaperones.

    Latin Mural
    This mural is in the Latin classroom, room 201, and was done as a Senior Service Project. The title is: "Orpheus and Eurydice" (the letters in the photo are Greek). Sydney Bruck created the design and supervised the drawing and painting of the mural. Sydney's assistants were: Angela Wang, Gelsey Lee, and Sydney Wilson.
