6th Grade String Orchestra
Rehearsals: Mondays - Connections (2:20 pm - 3:00 pm)This ensemble is for all 6th grade students who play the violin, viola, cello, and string bass. This ensemble studies and performs a wide variety of styles and genres. The 6th grade orchestra performs at the Winter and Spring Fine and Applied Arts Concerts.

7th and 8th Grade Orchestra
Tuesdays - 7:00 am - 7:45 amThis ensemble is for all 7th and 8th grade students who play the violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Ensemble repertoire reflects an emphasis on the classics of the Western symphonic tradition. This ensemble performs at the Winter and Spring Fine and Applied Arts Concerts. -
6th Grade Band
Rehearsals - Music Day 2 (7:00 am - 7:45 am)This ensemble is for all 6th grade students who play band instruments. The band performs for the Winter and Spring Fine and Applied Arts Concerts. The ensemble also performs with all of the middle school and high school bands at Band Night in October. -
7th Grade Band
Rehearsals - Music Day 1 (7:00 am - 7:45 am)This ensemble is for all 7th grade students who play band instruments. This band performs for the Winter and Spring Fine and Applied Arts Concerts. The ensemble also performs with all of the middle school and high school bands at Band Night in October. -
8th Grade Band
Rehearsals - Music Day 3 (7:00 am - 7:45 am)This ensemble is for all 8th grade students who play band instruments. This band performs for the Winter and Spring Fine and Applied Arts Concerts. The ensemble also performs with all of the middle school and high school bands at Band Night in October. -
Basie Jazz Band
Rehearsals - Tuesday and Thursdays; 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm November through MayThis group of students is selected through audition in the Fall. Performances include the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District Jazz Night, student assemblies, and the 6th grade Academy Awards. -
Ellington Jazz Band
Rehearsals - Mondays 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm; Fridays 2:30 pm - 3:30 pmThis group of students is selected through audition in the Fall. Performances include Wallingford-Swarthmore School District Jazz Night, student assemblies, and various local middle school jazz festivals.

In addition to the performing ensembles, group music lessons - both choral and instrumental - are available to all students. Lessons are held once each week during the school day, on a rotating period schedule.
Students who wish to join our performing ensembles are encouraged to contact the appropriate member of the music department faculty for information about schedules, lessons, and/or starting to play a musical instrument.
