• 7TH Grade Physical Education

    Physical education is a vital component for the development of a student’s physical, mental and social well-being.  7th grade students, through planned activities, will have the opportunity for physical development in the areas of strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, balance, agility, range of motion, and power.  Students are introduced to the fundamentals of team and individual sports, which include skills, rules, and game strategy.  This diverse program will allow students the opportunity to develop individual skills and be introduced to new, enjoyable experiences for life-long physical fitness and well-being.  Classes will stress the importance of student participation and sportsmanship while learning and performing various skills.

    The Health and Physical Education grade will be combined and averaged as one grade.  Health class will be instructed for approximately 6 weeks (please see Health syllabus).  Physical Education classes will be instructed for approximately 12 weeks.  This entire course will be one semester.  The grading system for Physical Education is as follows:

    A = Outstanding                     (90 – 100)

    B = Above Average               (80 – 89)

    C = Satisfactory                     (70 – 79)

    D = Needs Improvement       (60 – 69)

    F = Unsatisfactory                 (<59)

    The following four areas will each account towards 25% of your physical education grade:

                Participation – Students must be physically active in class and complete any assignments.

                Preparedness – Students are to change clothes for class.  Sneakers, dark color shorts or sweat pants, and a Panther tee-shirt are required.

                Skill & Effort – Students must demonstrate basic levels of competency and show improvement in skill level.

                Citizenship – Students should demonstrate good sportsmanship, positive leadership qualities, have a positive attitude, and be respectful and cooperative.

    Excuses from Physical Education – bring a note from home or the nurse.  A doctor’s excuse requires a follow-up written permission slip to resume physical activities.

    Health instruction will begin approximately week 13 into the semester.  At that time, a Health syllabus will be provided.
