    Dear Fourth Graders and Parents,

Welcome to fourth grade!  I am eager to meet you and to welcome you to a year filled with new challenges, new experiences, and new accomplishments.  I had a lovely summer and hope you did as well. I travelled to Scotland at the beginning of the summer and just got back from a week in Cape May.  I look forward to hearing about your summer adventures when I see you in September!

This year we will learn many things.  In Writer’s and Reader’s Workshops, we will write and read many new genres.  You’ll read more books than you ever imagined possible! In math, we will study place value, charts, multiplication, division, fractions, and geometry.  If you haven’t been practicing already, now is a good time to brush up on your math facts. Can you multiply forty facts in two minutes? Believe it or not, that is the goal for fourth graders. In social studies, we’ll learn about the geography of the United States as well as discover the history, geography, culture, economics, and government of Pennsylvania.  Finally, you’ll explore land and water, motion and design, and electric circuits through hands-on experiments in science.

Our specials are from 9:45 to 10:30 each day.  We have a four-day rotational schedule again this year, and it is available on the school website.  We have Library on the first day of school. Fourth graders have recess and lunch from 12:35 to 1:20 p.m. To get us through the morning, we’ll have a “working snack” break.  Please bring a healthy snack each day that is quick and easy to eat.

Remember to look at the supply list on the school website. In addition to the general fourth grade list, there are a few other supplies I would like you to purchase.  Please check the enclosed list for additional items you need to bring. Some items will be stored in your desk; other items will be shared with your classmates.  You should bring your supplies with you on the very first day of school. We’ll be organizing and labeling, and (of course) READING!

We have a lot to look forward to this year.  Because we are a team, we will make this a wonderful year to remember!  See you on September 3rd in room 205!
