Welcome to Strath Haven Middle School.  Please take a careful look at our philosophy below, as these ideals are embedded in our collective beliefs and practices each and every day.

Philosophy of Strath Haven Middle School

Respecting the unique nature of the middle school student, Strath Haven Middle School is dedicated to maintaining academic integrity, fostering intellectual curiosity, honoring individuality, promoting cooperation, and enhancing self-esteem.  Strath Haven Middle School recognizes that during adolescence students undergo profound changes.  This period of life requires a middle school program that is sensitive to the needs and interests of the whole child and responsive to varied learning styles and experiences.  In order to meet the challenges associated with adolescence, Strath Haven Middle School offers enriching opportunities for educational exploration within a safe, secure, and supportive environment.

Strath Haven Middle School strives to help students think critically, make responsible decisions, and become alive to new ideas, concepts, and skills.  The school program emphasizes the interrelationship of all disciplines and works to draw every child into the joy of learning.  Valuing flexibility and openness to change in its own programming, Strath Haven Middle School seeks to cultivate in the student a flexible, adaptive approach.

Strath Haven Middle School embraces the inclusion of all children in the life and spirit of the school community.  All children are encouraged to participate in a variety of cooperative learning activities in both curricular and co-curricular programs.  In the spirit of shared governance, Strath Haven Middle School promotes student and teacher empowerment, affirming respect for the voice of every child and teacher.  The school promotes an atmosphere of intimacy and connectedness that reflects our commitment to self-discovery and a strong sense of belonging.
