SHHS Sustainability CommitteeMs. Katie Shepard's ninth grade Environmental Science class planted a red oak tree on the high school property. The tree planting was a culminating activity in their watershed unit (as well as an Earth Day activity) focusing on the benefits of trees in storm water management within a watershed. During the planting, students learned about proper tree care and pruning. Several students pruned some of the existing trees that had been planted by previous 9th grade classes. This year the SHHS Sustainability Committee plans to raise money for projects, attend the wellness fair, host a day of darkness, increase awareness through articles in the Panther Press and posters, and attend local park clean up days. Stay tuned for upcoming info on 2013 Earth Day activities. For additional information regarding sustainable projects at SHHS contact Teacher Representative Jennifer Savage jsalvage@wssd.org |
