"Our mission at the Swarthmore-Rutledge School is to enable our students to experience academic and social success through a sound, student-centered instructional program. Character education and social awareness learning opportunities are provided within a positive and supportive school community. The goal is for our students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers, with genuine respect for diversity and social responsibility, and a live-long love of learning. "
"Who's the Boss?" A concept I teach each of my students is that everyone has a boss. The best boss to have is yourself - a.k.a. "Boss #1" Everyone prefers to tell themselves what to do as opposed to others telling them what to do. If Boss #1 fails to do his/her job, then Boss #2 (parents at home & teacher at school) has to be in charge. The principal is Boss #3 when Bosses #2 need help. This concept fits well with our four cornerstones of character education.
